Leonard A. Mattas

(1928-2015)
Leonard A. Mattas, 86, passed away Aug. 6, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kan. He was born Sept. 7, 1928 on the family farm in Ellsworth County, the son of Anton and Matilda (Soukup) Mattas. A lifetime resident of Wilson, Leonard was a farmer and rancher. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was then granted an Honorable Discharge. He was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, Knights of Columbus Council 1924 in Wilson, Wilson American Legion Post 262, and life member of Russell V.F.W. Post 6240. He also served on the Board of Directors for AGCO in Russell. On April 10, 1956 he married Irene Demel at the Holy Family Church in Odin. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Mike Mattas and wife Mary of Wilson; daughter Norma Schneweis and husband David of Claflin; brother Raymond Mattas of Russell; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Nancy Mattas in 1968, and Mary Mattas in 1979. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Aug. 8, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wilson, celebrated by Fr. Mathew Chacko. Burial followed in the St. Wenceslaus Church Cemetery with Fort Riley Honor Guard, Russell V.F.W. Post 6240, and Wilson American Legion Post 262. Memorials may be made to DSNWK of Russell or Brookdale Hospice of Salina in care of Foster Mortuary P.O.
