The Flood of 2019

FRED PETERSON/For the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter

This road to nowhere is typical of the problems officials at Kanopolis Lake have encountered because of this year’s excessive moisture.

With the exception of the Corps-operated Riverside Park below the dam, Kanopolis Reservoir continues to be closed.

High water closed Kanopolis Lake this past weekend.

Severe weather and repeated rounds of heavy rain on already saturated ground have caused minor flooding throughout Ellsworth County.

And if the weather forecast holds true, even more rain is expected.

Caps off to the Class of 2019

Members of the Ellsworth Junior-Senior Class of 2019 listen intently as they are challenged to make a difference in the world. While several of the class are going straight into the workforce, others plan to attend trade schools, community colleges and universities. As a whole the class has accepted in excess of $305,100 in scholarships and awards.

Sydney Wilson, president of the 38 member Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School Class of 2019, set a tone of thanksgiving Sunday, during the annual graduation ceremony in the school gym, as she looked back on the educational journey the class took to reach their special day.

“The constant love and support from our family and the guidance and patience from our teachers has helped us to reach the goals we have set,” Wilson said.“Without you guys pushing us to be our best, we would not be where we are today.”
