Bearcats bring home seven state medals

Ellsworth senior Josiah Bolton created late space between himself and Meade’s Ethan Thompson in Saturday’s 2A 1600m race. Bolton won the silver behind Yates Center standout Hadley Splechter.

Josiah Bolton’s first state track meet proved to be a messy one — through no fault of his own. Storms delayed the first day of the Kansas State Track and Field Championships for three hours Friday morning in Wichita. More storms halted the full day’s schedule about two hours later.

That made for a full Saturday of action. Field events were shortened and track preliminaries were eliminated meaning all 16 state qualifiers ran in two heats in most events Saturday. Late storms again pushed the final events to Sunday at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.
