Etchisons to Celebrate 45th Anniversary

Anniversary

Ron and Marilyn Etchison, of Ellsworth (4 ½ years), and longtime residents of Holyrood (38 years), will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 8. Ron Etchison and the former Marilyn Miller were married June 8, 1974, at First Baptist Church in Greensburg. They are longtime members of First Baptist Church of Lorraine KS.

Ron was a junior high and high school teacher at Quivira Heights Junior High (Holyrood) and Quivira Heights High School (Bushton) for 26 and 6 years respectively — teaching math, language arts, and social studies, and was also a coach and athletic director — retiring in 2007.

Marilyn was a home economics (FACS) teacher at Bushton, Wilson, and Chase and Little River before serving as elementary and middle school counselor at Central Plains, where she retired in 2016.

Anthony and Kimbree Hopkins, Kanopolis, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Maggie Marie Hopkins.

Maggie was born at 6:50 a.m. March 22, 2019 at Salina Regional Hospital weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces.

She is welcomed home by siblings Ellie and Claire Hopkins.

Grandparents are Ed Hopkins Jr., Salina; Michelle Johnson, Lindsborg; Jana Arensman, Kanopolis; and Randy and Angela Bunch, Kanopolis.

Maternal great-grandmother is Ona Lou Wright, Ellsworth.

The family of Eugene Macek is hosting a come and go reception to celebrate his 95th birthday from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Midland Railroad Hotel in Wilson, Kan.

Eugene was born June 24, 1924 in Noble township to Edward and Ethel (Miller) Macek and has lived his entire life in Noble township. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1943 and married Lucille Birzer Aug. 6, 1953 at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church north of Ellinwood.

Eugene’s children are Jolene (Doug) Grothe of Wichita, and Melvin (Kathleen) Macek of Wilson. His grandchildren are Ryan (Tiffany) Grothe of Jubail, Saudi Arabia, Aaron (Melissa) Grothe of League City, Texas, Michael Macek of Wilson and Laura (Matt) Froese of Wilson. He has four great-grandchildren, Autumn, Lillian, Logan and Sarah Grothe.

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER

Kanopolis Middle School 6th graders walk from Gambino’s Pizza in Ellsworth May 23 to the middle school in Kanopolis leaving Ellsworth at 6:30 a.m. on the last day of school for the annual walk. State Farm Insurance-Anthony Hopkins Agency, Midway Extension District and Ellsworth County Health Department provided snacks for the journey.

Haases to celebrate anniversary and birthdays

Lloyd and Erna Haase, lifetime residents of Ellsworth, will celebrate 70 years of marriage, as well as their 91st and 89th birthdays.

Both attended St. Paul's Lutheran School through the 8th grade. Lloyd entered the Navy to serve his country during the Korean War. They lived in California and Virginia during his service. Lloyd retired from Northern Natural Gas Co. Erna retired from the Peterson Law office in Ellsworth, originally the Danner and O'Donnel Law Office. They continue their lifetime membership at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of North Ellsworth.

An Open House celebration in their honor will be held from 3-5 p.m. May 26 in the Ellsworth Golf Course meeting room.

A 6 p.m. dinner will follow for family and close friends.

Card shower for Barbara Steiner’s 90th birthday

Barbara Steiner

The children of Barbara Steiner would like to honor their mother on her 90th birthday by having a card shower. The family plans a celebration at a later date.

Barbara was born May 28, 1929 in Ellsworth to Thomas and Barbara (Janousek) Foote and spent her childhood years in nearby Black Wolf. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1947 and married Clayton Steiner June 1, 1948, at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Ellsworth. The couple moved to Great Bend in 1953 where she now resides. She retired in 1997 as a Special Ed Para-professional for USD 428.

Barbara’s children are Jim Steiner and Susan Steiner, both of Great Bend, Dan (Cathy) Steiner of Stilwell, Laurie (Stacey) Cooke of Junction City.
