MARQUETTE TRIBUNE - Ruby Johnson

Ruby Johnson, 70, of McPherson, Kan. passed away at 3:50 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 surrounded by her family, at her home.
    

     Ruby was born in Corona, Calif. on July 17, 1945, a daughter of Kathryn L. (Clark) and Kenneth E. Malm.
     Ruby attended the Lindsborg and Marquette grade schools and attended Lindsborg High School her freshman year and graduated from Marquette High School, Marquette, Kan. in 1963. Ruby attended and graduated from the McPherson School of Nursing and received her LPN when she was 46 years old.
     Ruby was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church McPherson, where she taught Sunday school, and served her church in many capacities through the years.
     Ruby was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Ruby and John owned and operated John R. Johnson Construction where she was bookkeeper. She later worked as a LPN for the Cedars for a while before going to Family Practice from which she retired at the age of 63.
     Ruby enjoyed reading, talking to her kids, recipes and cooking shows, gardening and had a green thumb.
     Ruby K. Malm was united in marriage to John R. Johnson on Nov. 25, 1961 at McPherson. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson.
     Ruby is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 53 years, John Johnson, of McPherson; her children, Tracy Weber and her husband Brian, of Abilene, Joy Shumway and her husband Randy, of Wichita, Chad Johnson and his wife Sue, of McPherson, and Ben Johnson and his wife Julie, of Goddard; her siblings, Freda Talbott and her husband Kenneth, of Marquette, Frances Day, of Torrance, Calif., and Russell Malm and his wife Flora, of Marquette; her 11 grandchildren, Adam Ramsey and his wife Karen, Kirk Ramsey, Jamie Charpentier and her husband Grant, Langley Hallinger and her husband Travis, Truman Shumway, Raegen Shumway, Jack Shumway, Skye Colaw and her husband Alex, Cort Johnson, Jarrett Johnson, and Sydni Johnson; her four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Trace, Owen, and Eli Hallinger; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Ruby was preceded in death by her parents.
     Friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m.,  Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.
     Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2 at the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural McPherson.
     The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson with The Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.
     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W.Euclid St., McPherson, Ks. 67460.
