Eugene 'Gene' Michael Garrett

     Eugene “Gene” Michael Garrett, 80, of Medicine Lodge, Kan. died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015 at his residence.
     He was born Nov. 19, 1934 in Dorrance, Kan., the son of Parvin A. Garrett and Mary S. (Driscoll) Garrett.  He married Lillian (Wanek) Garrett Jan. 30, 1957, in Ellsworth. She survives.
     Gene was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medicine Lodge. He was a fourth degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and was the original founder of the Knights of Columbus in Medicine Lodge. Gene was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Jaycees. He worked at Western Power Light as a lineman in Ellsworth, and worked at the Central Electric Substation when he moved to Medicine Lodge. Gene ran the VIP Supper Club in Alva, Okla. from 1988-2000.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59.
     Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven Garrett.
     Surviving in addition to his wife, Lillian Garrett, are four daughters, Kim (Doug) McCormick of Hutchinson, Valerie (Fred) Starnes of Lyons, Rita (Steve) Buckaloo of Golden, Mo.; Tonia (Roger) VanRanken of Medicine Lodge; Six grandchildren, Ryan, Mindy, Julie, Sheila, Beau, and Samantha; four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lillian, Hannah, and one on the way; one sister, Donna (Marion) Schmidt of Hays.
     Visitation will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, with a vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medicine Lodge.
     A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, with Father Firmin Kyaw officiating.  Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
     Memorials may be made to the Medicine Lodge Boy Scout Troop 227 or the Knights of Columbus, Medicine Lodge.
