Lady Oilers place second at Great Bend

GREAT BEND — The Central Plains Lady Oiler tennis team completed their regular season Oct. 1 when they hosted a meet in Great Bend. 
Keeley Hipp and Janae Ryan led the team, winning all of their matches in the number one doubles division. 
They defeated St. John first by a score of 8-0. In their next match they were victorious over Sterling, again with the score being 8-0. They completed the sweep, with an 8-0 win over an Ellinwood, a team who placed ninth at state last year.
Number one singles player Kaylyn Oberle also had a successful day, placing second. She beat St. John and Lyons with the score being 8-2 in each match. She then downed a quality Ellinwood competitor 8-1, before falling 8-2 to a Sterling player that finished fifth at state a year ago.
Number two singles player Kylee Girard placed second as well. She breezed through her first two matches of the day beating Lyons 8-3 and Ellinwood 8-2. She was then defeated by a solid Sterling player 8-2. She cruised in her final match, winning 8-0 against St. John to claim her second place medal.
Hannah Beran and Mikayla Menges teamed up to place third in number two doubles action. 
They won their first match over Lyons by a score of 8-2. The Lady Oilers were downed in their next two matches by Ellinwood and Sterling with scores of 8-3 and 8-1 respectively. 
Beran and Menges bounced back in their final match and triumphed over St. John 8-2. 
There was a three way tie for second place, and since the Lady O’s had the same win percentage as Ellinwood, the runner-up went to Ellinwood who had the head to head victory over Central Plains.
The Lady Oilers ended up placing second as a team, behind second-ranked 3A-2A-1A Sterling. 
The lady O’s will compete at the Kiowa County regional meet  Oct. in Greensburg. Play will begin following the 10 a.m. coaches’ meeting.

Kaylyn Oberle placed second in number one singles, beating Scott City 8-2 and then St. John 8-1. Her only loss of the day came to Hoisington by a score of 8-0.
In number two singles action Kylee Girard achieved first place, beating St. John 8-0 and then downing two different Hoisington opponents.
Keeley Hipp and Janae Ryan won the number one doubles division beating Scott City 8-2 and Osborne 8-1 before shutting out their final two opponents from St. John and Hoisington with scores of 8-0 in each.
The number two doubles team of Hannah Beran and Mikayla Menges finished in second place. They downed their opponents from Scott City and St. John, both with a score of 8-2 but were defeated by Hoisington.
