Taking candy from kids

Taking candy from babies aptly describes Gov. Brownback’s fiscal policy. One recent example being his proposal to take $25.5 million intended for the Children’s Health Insurance Program in order to shore up an anticipated $190 million shortfall in the state’s General Fund. The shortfall, of course, is a direct result of his fiscal policy, but instead of any proposal that might approximate a reversal of his misguided policies, he prefers to take federal not state “dollars that otherwise would have been spent to provide health coverage to Kansas children living in low-income families.” If the proposal passes, 56,000 Kansas children will be losing in order to pay for Gov. Brownback’s inept fiscal policy.
