3A Norton Community sub-State basketball tournament

ELLSWORTH — The fourth-seeded Bearcats, with an 11-9 record will play fifth-seeded 9-10 Phillipsburg at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29 at the Bearcat Den in Ellsworth.

Ellsworth defeated the Panthers 58-57 in its second game of the season at the Amos Morris-George Stephens Basketball tournament in Lincoln. Norton, with a 17-3 record is ranked seventh by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and is the top seed.

HAYS — The Lady ‘Cats, seeded eighth with a 4-16 season record, will meet a good and under-rated Thomas Moore Prep Lady Monarch team (17-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at TMP High School in Hays.

The Lady Monarchs have a lot of height, speed, shoot the ball well and are the top seed in the tournament.

2A St. John-Hudson sub-State basketball tournament

CLAFLIN — The top-ranked and undefeated 2A Central Plains Oilers (20-0) have the top seed and will play Medicine Lodge (10-10) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at the Oilerdome in Claflin.

Defending 2A State champion and fourth-ranked St. John-Hudson (17-3) is the second seed in the tournament. The O-men have been the only team able to defeat the Tigers this season and in all probabilities, the two basketball powerhouses will meet in the championship match at 7:30 Friday, March 3 in St. John.

CLAFLIN — The undefeated, top-ranked and two-time defending champion 2A Lady Oilers (20-0) will play a struggling eighth-seeded Ellinwood team (3-16) at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29 at the Oilderdome in Claflin.

The South Central Lady Timberwolves of Coldwater (17-3) are ranked eighth by the KBCA and have the second-seed slot in the tournament.

1A Division II Palco sub-State basketball tournament

PALCO — The second-seeded Wilson Dragons (8-11) have a bye in the first round of the Palco sub-State tournament and will play the third-seeded Roosters Thursday, March 3 in Palco.

Tescott, with an 11-10 record is the top seed. The Trojans and Dragons played each other three times during the regular season with Wilson claiming two wins.

The Lady Dragons (11-9) are also seeded second and will meet third seed Natoma (8-11) at Friday, March 4 in Palco. The Lady Dragons have beaten Natoma by four points in both regular season match-ups.

Wilson’s arch-rival, the Lady Mustangs of Sylvan-Lucas Unified are the top seed with an 11-8 record. The Lady Mustangs won a game by four points and Wilson claimed the other victory by three during the regular season.

Times for the Wilson high school basketball games have not been determined at post time.
