Oilers place third at State tournament

MANHATTAN — The Central Plains Oilers took home the third-place State trophy Saturday, with a 56-26 win over Hill City in the 2A State basketball tournament in Manhattan. Senior Braedan Crites made the second O-men bucket of the game at the 6:06 mark and following a Ringnecks’ charity shot, Devin Ryan canned a trey to give Central Plains a 7-1 lead with 4:49 left in the first quarter. Hill City fought back to take a 1-point lead, 8-7 before Devin Ryan hit another 3-ball to give the Oilers a 10-8 advantage with 2:44 on the clock. The Oilers tacked on four points before senior Jake Warnken drained a trey at the 51 second mark to give Central Plains a 17-8 first quarter lead.
