Patricia Lee 'Patty' Adamek (1940-2016)

Patricia Lee ‘Patty’ Adamek, 75, died Sunday, March 6, 2016.

She was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Ellsworth, to Vince and Bertha (Setter) Terry.

She lived briefly in western Kansas when her father was a John Deere plow salesman. Upon moving to Wichita in early childhood she attended McCormick, St. Joseph, All Saints, Sacred Heart and East High schools. Patty attended the St. Francis School of Nursing and graduated in 1961 as a registered nurse. She began her career in Arizona, then returned to the Red Cross in Wichita. Patty also built her career in Texas, participated in a nursing mission to Honduras, and worked in New York and Maryland before returning again to Wichita. Over the course of the next 20 years, she became an active member of the staff at St. Joseph Hospital, progressing to management responsibilities.

In 1990 she married Kenneth Adamek. The couple relocated to Oklahoma City and Patty continued to practice in Oklahoma. Following her retirement from nursing, Patty achieved a Master Gardener Certification and was a Docent at the Harn Homestead in Oklahoma City. After Ken’s retirement, Patty and Ken built a new home near Winfield, Kan. and became active in Trinity Lutheran Church and other community activities. Patty was an active member of the TREE reading program at the Central Elementary School.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Connie Terry and Dorothy Konkel, R.N.; and brother, John Terry, M.D.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter, Amy (Sam Ladwig) Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; step-sons, Vince (Debbie) Adamek of Tulsa, Okla., Norman (Cindy) Adamek of Spring, Texas; five grandchildren; one great-grandson.

She is also survived by nieces, Karen Konkel, M.D., Julie Tippett; nephews, Chris Konkel, and Dave Terry; as well as several beloved great-nieces and nephews, and dear sister-in-law, Ruth Terry.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield, Kan.
