Estella Marie (Crabtree) Nuss, 92, of Wilson, Kan. passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society in Ellsworth, Kan.
Estella was the only child of Raymond and Anna (Francy) Crabtree and was born Aug. 29, 1923 in a sod house in Sheridan County near Quinter, Kan. Her parents named her after her grandmother, Estella Worthing Crabtree. When she was a young girl, she professed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and joined the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Quinter where she remained a life member. She received her education at Quinter grade and high schools. Her Bachelor of Music Education degree was from Fort Hays State University. She spent 28 years serving her Master by teaching school. In addition to teaching music, English, and kindergarten, she tried to teach honesty, high morals, and creation. It was while she was teaching in Dorrance, Kan. that she met LaVerne Nuss. They were united in marriage on May 26, 1948 in Quinter and this union was blessed with four sons. Together they lived and raised their sons on a farm in southeast Russell County.
Estella was a member of the Dorrance Homemakers, FCE, and Sorosis Federated Club. She served as an officer in Midwest Presbyterian, Northwest Area FCE, and Sixth District GFWC. Her areas of service were health, conservation, and music. Estella was also inducted into the School District Hall of Fame in 2011 and she was an Honorary Member of the Wilson High School Alumni. She enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens and making many quilts over the years, whether it be embroidery, applique, or other type of quilt design.
She is survived by four sons: Daryl Nuss and wife Donna of Poway, Calif., Daniel Nuss and wife Hazel of Shawnee, Kan., Lyman Nuss and wife Rosmary of Dorrance, Kan., and Bryce Nuss and wife Tracea of Dardenne Prarie, Mo.; seven grandchildren: David Nuss of Brooklyn, N.Y., Daniel Nuss and wife Angela of Maputo, Mozambique, Patrick Nuss and wife Gina of Seattle, Wash., Katy Nuss of Manhattan, Kan., Michael Connell and wife Teresa of Dorrance, Kan., Raylyn Nuss and Rileigh Nuss both of Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; and two great-grandchildren: Oliver Nuss and Colin Connell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband LaVerne in 2007.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at the Foster Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob McFarland officiating. Interment will be in the Wilson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be today (Thursday, April 7) from 1 to 9 p.m.  with family present from 7 to 9 p.m.
