FLOOD AND SHAKE

The old saying, “If you don’t like the weather in Kansas, just wait a few minutes and it will change,” would have been an appropriate headline to summarize this past week’s smorgasbord of extremes. Ellsworth finished August with more than 5 inches of rain in a couple of hours, enough to overwhelm the city’s drainage inlet at Eighth Street and Douglas Avenue and temporarily flood Douglas from Kansas Highway 140 to downtown.
