Arlene Milberger Mitchell

     Arlene Milberger Mitchell, 80, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at her home.
     Arlene Milberger Mitchell was born Sept. 2, 1936 in Wilson Kan. She was the daughter of Henry and Edna Milberger. After graduating from high school in Wilson, she moved to Kansas City where she attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She received her R.N. diploma in 1958. She worked in the specialty of urology for over 20 years. Later, she worked for Hospice Care of Mid-America. She was involved in many volunteer services. She was a member of St. Luke’s Medical Wives Auxiliary, St. Luke’s Nurses Alumni Association. She was a member of the Village Presbyterian Chancel Choir for many years.
     Arlene married Dr. Andrew D. Mitchell in 1970.
     Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, niece Patty, her parents, sister, Delores, and brother, Richard.
     She leaves three step-children, Melissa Finstead (BA) of South Pasadena Calif., Dr. Andrew Werner Mitchell (Betty) of Colorado Springs Colo., and Sam W. Mitchell (Barbara) of Overland Park Kan. There are seven grandchildren who she loved as her own; Jamie, Cori, Lindsay, Nathan, Sam L., Ellen and Kristine. She leaves brother, Ray and sister-in-law Jan, California. She also leaves many adoring nieces and nephews; Wayne (Ruth and their children, Andrew and Lille), Nance, Mike, Jenna, Jeff, CJ, Debbie, Tim, Curt, Lori, Charlotte and John.
     The family would like to thank Lydia Crady for being a loving friend and caregiver and also Care Haven Homes for giving Arlene a safe and loving environment.
     Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Shawnee, Kan.
     Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home.
     Private burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, Kan.
     In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Music Department of the Village Presbyterian Church or St. Luke’s Hospital Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund.
