Homecoming Week starts Monday and continues through Friday, Oct. 7, at Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School. The theme is “The Lions Sleep Tonight”, as the Ellsworth Bearcats play the Minneapolis Lions in football Friday night.
Student Council members have chosen the specific themes for each day of the week:
• Monday — fake injury.
• Tuesday — toga Tuesday.
• Wednesday — Hero vs. Villain.
• Thursday — Throwback Thursday.
• Friday — Black and Red Friday.
Each day, faculty and staff vote on their favorite Spirit Day participants. The female and male high school students that receive the most votes get into Friday’s homecoming dance for free. Junior high students may also compete but are not allowed to go to the dance. Those winning students will get either a candy bar or pop as prizes.
Along with the themed Spirit Days, there will also be a street chalking for the seniors to sign their names, a jersey auction for the football players, and a bonfire at the recreation center. A time to chalk the street in front of the high school has not been set. The football jersey auction is Thursday night where high school students may ‘buy’ the players’ away jerseys to wear that friday.
After the auction —led by Stuco President Janae Schulte and junior Jaxson Windholz — students will snake dance down to the recreation center.
Student Council members are working on getting permission to play their music on the Douglas Avenue sound system to accompany the dancers. Once everyone arrives at the recreation center, there will be a bonfire where students will burn a makeshift Lion mascot. Cheerleaders will lead chants and cheers. Only high schoolers are invited to the bonfire.
