Oilers clinch District championship

By Mark McCoy

CLAFLIN — The Central Plains Oilers clinched the 8-man Division I District 5 championship Friday, with a 58-0 win over St. John in Claflin. Central Plains got on the scoreboard 44 seconds into the first quarter on Alex Hickel’s 29-yard dive and with the PAT points grabbed an early 8-0 lead. Devin Ryan picked off a Tiger pass and scored less than two minutes later for a 14-0 lead. The interception gave the momentum of the game to the O-men and the Tigers never recovered following the score.
