Amos Morris-George Stephens Tournament
RUSSELL — The top-ranked, three-time defending 2A champion Lady Oilers of Central Plains extended their current winning streak to 34 games with a 94-12 win over the luckless Lady Leopards of Lincoln Tuesday at Ruppenthal Junior High School in Russell. Lady O head coach Pat Stiles tried to slow the scoring down, but his bench is almost as powerful as his starting line-up. The Lady Leopards played hard, but Central Plains is once again loaded with talent.
The Lady ‘Cats were far too powerful for the Lady Panthers of Phillipsburg, winning the first round game of the Amos Morris-George Stephens basketball tournament by a score of 47-19, Tuesday at Russell High School. Lady ‘Cat head coach Ken Cravens played his bench players for most of the final stanza. Ellsworth did a great job of focusing on the game.
The contest between Phillipsburg and the Bearcats was a barn-burner, as Ellsworth overcame a double-digit deficit in the second quarter to take the lead late in the fourth and earn a 66-60 win over a very good Panther team. Great plays by Kaden Davis, Jordan Base and Colton Hower gave the ‘Cats the edge.
The ninth-ranked 2A Central Plains Oilers had little trouble dispatching Lincoln, 67-29, at Ruppenthal Junior High School. Freshman Brett Liebl was impressive in the win. The O-men, who placed third in 2A last season, look formidable once again and are loaded with basketball talent.
The Lady ‘Cats will play the Lady O’s at 4 p.m. Friday at Russell High School. The Bearcats will play the O-men at 5:30 p.m. in the following game.
Tescott Tip-off Classic
The sixth-ranked 1A Division II Mustangs of Sylvan-Lucas Unified defeated the Dragons, 47-39, Tuesday in Tescott.

The Lady Dragons will play Tescott at 6 p.m. and Wilson will play Tescott at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Tescott.
