The Schoolhouse Blizzard

Across Kansas the Blizzard of 1886 was the granddaddy of them all. Great Plains blizzards often have the cruel characteristic of blowing in on the heels of beautiful, balmy days. That was the case two years later across the northern plains in 1888. A snow storm brought powdery snow across the northern and central plains Jan. 5 and 6, followed by bitter cold from Jan. 7 to Jan. 11. The morning of Jan. 12 dawned with warmer temperatures, with little to no wind.
