Georgia Mary Wilkinson (1928-2018)
Georgia Mary Wilkinson, 89, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 in Lyons, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 9, 1928 in Kanopolis to Ysidro and Jovita (Mesa) Diaz.
Georgia was a lifetime resident of Kanopolis where she was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church. She was a longtime member of the church council, altar society, church choir, and also served as treasurer. She was a past board member of the Ellsworth County Council on Aging and was a member of the Ellsworth County Election Board. In her early years after high school, she worked at the potato chip factory, Ida’s Potato Chips, in Kanopolis. She also spent some time babysitting and working at Bircher’s dairy and Elkan. She retired in 2003 from the Ellsworth County Medical Center as a cook after 19 years.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Gloria A. Ploutz of Kanopolis, Theresa Kyler (Bud) of Ellsworth, Cynthia K. Brady (Ron) of Kanopolis, and Mary M. Tarango (Richard) of Albuquerque, NM; son, Tom W. Wilkinson, Jr. (Tania) of Kanopolis; grandchildren, Tina Steinert (Clint), Sid Ploutz, Beth Rippen (Tanner), Justin Kyler (Laura), Jamie Kyler, Shannon Demel (Dustin), Amber Soukup (Luke), Serena Hernandez (Ricky), Monica Mercado, Dominic Tarango, Thomas Wilkinson III, and Tianna Wilkinson; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Manual, Tiodore, and Eugene Diaz.
Visitation is from 1-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth followed by a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m. Family will be present from 6-7 p.m.
Funeral Mass is from 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 19, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Kanopolis with burial following in the Kanopolis Cemetery.
