Arcola M. McCoy (1962-2018)

Arcola A. McCoy died early Monday morning, Feb. 5, 2018, at her home in rural Ellsworth County following a three-year affliction with cancer. She was 55- years old.

She was born Arcola Ann Potter April 16, 1962 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Hutchinson, to Reba (Norris) and Everett “Butch” Potter, the youngest of six siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister (Barbara) and two brothers (Everett Jr. and Charles).  

Arcola attended Holy Cross Catholic Elementary before transferring to the Nickerson public school district. She graduated from Nickerson High School at semester in January 1980.

She worked at Doscoile Foods immediately after high school before leaving to attend Hutchinson Community College. Arcola also managed the Pik Kwik convenience store located on East Fourth Ave. prior to moving to Ellsworth.

Arcola worked at Gene’s Foods for about a year prior to accepting a position at Tony’s Pizza, in Salina, where she completed her career in the food service industry. A tireless worker, she also held part-time jobs at Pack Rat Smokes (Salina) and Martin/D&S Oil of Ellsworth.

She married Doug Kidd of Hutchinson before divorcing amicably in 1986.

Arcola married her husband, Mark, on the McCoy Home-Place in August of 1987. They were married for over 30 years.

She is survived by her husband of rural Ellsworth; daughter Megan and daughter Heather (Joe) Harris and grandson Malcolm (The Magnificent), all of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Iris (Terry) Boise of Rio Rancho, N.M.; sister, Betty LaClair of Hutchinson; best-friend-forever Patti Preis of Hutchinson and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 11, at Parson’s Funeral Home in Ellsworth. There will be a fellowship hour where family will greet friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m., prior to service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
