Alice Virginia (Ginny) Hulburt (1941-2018)

Alice Virginia (Ginny) Hulburt passed away peacefully March 7, 2018, surrounded by her sons and granddaughter.
Ginny was born May 12, 1941, in upstate New York and this is where her love of outdoors and animals began. She spent her time on the family farm with her sisters, Marian and Elizabeth, and learned her passion for hard work and being a “farm girl”. She started her dance career at the age of 6. While in New York, she studied and taught tap, ballet, and acrobatics for 15 years including Dance Master training. Performances and competitions included amateur and semi-professional performances. In the Miss Batavia Pageant she was first runner up and won the talent contest for her lively tap number. We all admired her courage, lack of fear and eagerness for the next adventure.
This love of life brought Ginny to Colorado with her two sons in tow where she managed The Pinery Equestrian Center in that small country town we all now know as Parker. If you didn’t have somewhere or someone to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with, Ginny’s door was open, a seat at the table and homemade cranberry sauce. She took on barrel racing, met as many new friends as she could and always welcomed you into her home. Everyone was family to Ginny.
While in Colorado she studied with the Denver Dance Center and also studied, performed and taught for Hill Academy of Dance and Dramatics for 18 years.
Her next stop in life took her to Ellsworth, Kan., where she continued her passion and ran her own dance studio teaching tap, ballet, and jazz at the community center. Ginny was involved and impacted many members of the Ellsworth community. She found her forever home in Ellsworth and treasured the individual relationships, each being private, confidential and personal. The social events, Ellsworth United Methodist Church, her book club, her job at Post Rock Rural Water District all filled her days with the people and life she cared so much about.
Nobody enjoyed mowing the lawn on a riding mower, soaking up sun and being outside, as much as Ginny. She was a breath of fresh air, her energy and selflessness impacted so many. She was a wonderful, kind, peaceful woman who never spoke a bad word. The challenges she faced were handled with grace.
Ginny is survived by her son Scott Hulburt (Shari Kelly) and granddaughter Alyssa (Jesse Silva), son Chris Hulburt and grandson, Parker, sister Marian (Norman Seward, dec.) sister Elizabeth Heywood, nieces Laura (Neil Marzolf), Sandra (David Hofert), great-nieces Grace, Carson and Kayleen, and great-grandchildren Carter and Mackenzie Silva.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Alice Heywood and her much beloved grandson, Michael Hulburt. The family would like to thank special friends Robert and Terri Bock, Maureen Teneyck, and Susan and Darcy for all of their love and support. Mom loved serving others, in her honor, we ask our friends and family to follow her lead and do something kind for someone else.
Services will be at 11 a.m. June 30 at St. Simeon Cemetery in Colorado with a celebration of life to follow.
