Stop your engines

Edie Grogg isn’t especially a fan of “rat rods,” but she has to admit the custom cars built from old junk parts are among the more unusual entries at the Old Iron Classics Customs & Cycles Show. “They add some strange things to them,” said Grogg, whose preference leans more towards Ford Mustangs. She has three — a 1965, a 2006 and a 2009. There’s also the 1968 Mustang her husband, George, bought for her shortly after they were married.

He pulled the engine and sold it to a couple who became stranded in Ellsworth on their way west to attend a funeral. It awaits a replacement engine. With that exception, Edie Grogg will have her three show Mustangs, including her favorite — the red 1965 — on display June 2 at the Old Iron Classics on the grounds of the Ellsworth Recreation Center.
