Forsyth Scouts remembered at weekend ceremony

KANOPOLIS — One by one, re-enactors walked to the front porch of the Fort Harker Commanding Officers Quarters Saturday and re-created a day 150 years ago when 30 men signed up with the U.S. Army as Forsyth Scouts.

“Name?” asked Col. Inman, the Fort Harker quartermaster, who was seated at a table to greet the men as they stepped on the porch.

“John Haley,” replied one re-enactor in the character of his Scout.
