Beulah Margaret Janssen (1913-2018)

Beulah Margaret Janssen passed from this life on Nov. 1, 2018 at age 105 at the Care Haven Home-Fontana House in Overland Park, Kan. She was born Feb. 14, 1913 on the family farm near Covert, Kan. to Albert and Minnie (Mauck) Montgomery. She had four sisters, Pansy, Gladys, Alberta, and Neva Lee and two brothers, Leslie and Eldon.
She married Eldo H. Janssen of Garber, Okla. in 1934. They had two children, Robert Janssen (Puyallup, Wash.) and Carolyn (Gary) Beauchamp (Prairie Village, Kan.). They were blessed with three granddaughters, Leanne Janssen-Carpenter (Rick), Andrea Kristoff (Gregory), and Shawndra Turner and six great-grandchildren.
Beulah and Eldo moved around in the early years together before settling in Holyrood, Kan. where they resided for over 50 years. Eldo passed away in 2002 and Beulah continued in her home until she was 98, moving to the Overland Park community in 2011.
Beulah was fun loving, caring, and energetic; always enjoying time with family and many friends she made along her “long” journey. She loved being outside and always had a garden. She believed in “waste not, want not”, influenced by hard times growing up in central and western Kansas, during World War I and II, the Great Depression, and the dust bowl. She was what she lived, a loving and compassionate lady that will be missed.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; by her husband, Eldo, of 67 years; and her granddaughter, Shawndra.
Left to celebrate her life is her son, Robert; daughter, Carolyn (Gary); granddaughters, Leanne and Andrea and their spouses; and six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Her family wishes to thank all those who have loved and supported Beulah on her life journey. Thanks to Care Haven Homes and their staff for the wonderful care they have extended to Beulah in the last three years. We are so happy she could spend time in such a loving place. We appreciate Great Lakes Hospice for their loving care and watching over her as she approached the end of her life.
Beulah’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave., Overland Park, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to KU Endowment, 3901 Rainbow Boulevard, Mail Stop 3012, Kansas City, Kan. 66160, to benefit the Shawndra Beauchamp Turner Colorectal Cancer Research Fund. Online contributions may be made at www.kuendowment.org/give. Please indicate the donations are for the Beulah Janssen memorial. You may also donate to any charitable organization that is dear to you in memory of Beulah.
