Bad weather turns Ellsworth County into ice rink

Winter weather arrived in Ellsworth County Sunday in a big way. Blizzard conditions delivered six inches of snow, strong winds and cold temperatures.

Cancellations were common as churches, schools and organizations abandoned plans so people could remain inside their homes. Ellsworth City Hall was opened to those in need of shelter.

Roads and highways were closed to traffic as drifts as high as a car were reported on Kansas Highway
140. Interstate 70 was closed as the storm moved east. Power outages also were common.
