McPherson County Historical Society presents The Cherokee trail in Kansas

The McPherson County Historical Society will sponsor a program at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at the McPherson Museum and Arts Foundation, 1111 E. Kansas Ave, McPherson entitled The Cherokee Trail in Kansas.

Speaker Brian Stucky, President of the Friends of the Cherokee Trail, Kansas, will illustrate the history of a well-documented but not well known 1849 gold rush trail, beginning in Arkansas and Oklahoma, coming up into Kansas, joining the Santa Fe Trail one mile east and two miles south of Galva. From there, it passed through Colorado, Wyoming, and into California. Members of the group live in Galva, Goessel, Whitewater, El Dorado, Wichita, Winfield and Arkansas.
