Ellsworth marches in new uniforms

Editor’s Note — After more years than just about anyone can remember, the Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School band has new uniforms. Students modeled them at the most recent board meeting of the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District. They also were on display as the drumline performed at a recent basketball game. Here’s the story the I-R’s Jennifer McDaniel wrote about the effort to secure the new uniforms.

On most crisp, fall mornings across Kansas, there’s the unmistakable thump of the bass drum, signaling high school marching band practice.

But listen carefully, and there’s the sharp staccato of the snare drums, along with the tenors and quads, punctuating the beat. The longer practice goes on, the further these sounds carry throughout these small towns, giving locals a sneak preview of what they’ll hear on Friday night.
