Alan 'Oopie' Marez (1943-2019)

Alan ‘Oopie’ Marez, 75, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at his home in Ellsworth. He was born Nov. 12, 1943 in Kanopolis to Louis Marez and Charlotte Hester LaBarr Marez.
Alan was a long time resident of Ellsworth where he married Gloria Lyne on Aug. 9, 1969. He retired from the Ellsworth County Highway Department where he had worked since 1972. He also owned Marez’s small engines in Ellsworth. Alan was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174.
Alan is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Ellsworth; son, Tobi Marez (Tavia) of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Trichia Andreson of Ellsworth; brother, Gerald Marez (Paulette) of Phillipsburg; sisters, Anita Phelps (Alan) of Brookville and Sheryl Kay Luppen (Kevin) of Alden, Iowa; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Robert.
Visitation is from 1-8 p.m., Monday, April 29, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
The funeral service is at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Ellsworth. Cremation will follow the service with an inurnment in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ellsworth County Historical Society for the Ft. Harker Museum, or Ellsworth American Legion Post 174, in care of Parsons Funeral Home, PO Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.
