Twenty bands took the stage Saturday at the first Midwest Underground Fest, an all-day music festival organized by Josh Helvey of Ellsworth County and his girlfriend, Shana Reed, of Kanopolis. The day was dry; however, winds gusted to 45 miles-per-hour and temperatures were in the 60s.

Concert draws crowd to Ellsworth County
It was Woodstock without the mud — just the wind and the cold.
The first Midwest Underground Music Fest attracted about 350 music lovers Saturday to the hills north of Ellsworth for an all-day celebration of music and the Kansas performers who provide it.
