Heller spreads fort’s history
By LINDA MOWERY-DENNING
Greg Heller is a magnet for the curious and that’s just fine with him. Dressed as a 1800’s Civil War Union soldier, Heller is a common figure at the grocery store, in downtown Ellsworth and at the Fort Harker Guardhouse Museum, where he works 34 hours a week to share the history only a few towns can claim. As a result, it isn’t unusual for children — their parents in tow — to approach Heller and ask questions about his dress. It’s all part of his effort to pass on the history he thinks people need to know to make informed decisions about the present and the future.
