Officer involved shooting Thursday evening on K-156 Highway

    Update: The Independent-Reporter staff was able to track down Ellsworth County Attorney Joe Shepack Friday morning at the county courthouse. He has to talk to Ellsworth County Sheriff Tracy Ploutz before he releases any information.

Update: Information continues to be sketchy. However, Trooper Ben Gardner of the Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed in a telephone interview Friday morning that KHP troopers responded Thursday evening on K-156 Highway to a report of "a vehicle on fire with other circumstances of concern involving other agencies."

The Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter staff is in the process of tracking down information related to an alleged officer involved shooting Thursday evening on K-156 Highway at milepost 154 between Ellsworth and Holyrood. The incident happened at 6:32 p.m. and involved a high speed chase. The Kansas Highway Patrol was called in to assist. The matter is being investigated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and all information will be released through Ellsworth County Attorney Joe Shepack.
