The ‘Boys of Summer’

Two members of the Black Wolf Baseball Club — Eugene Malir of Wilson and Richard Janda of Ellsworth — were among those who gathered in the basement meeting room of the J.H. Robbins Memorial Library in Ellsworth recently for the town’s 19th annual reunion. After lunch, these two ‘boys of summer’ reminisced about their time on the team more than 70 years ago with Frank Toman of Ellsworth, the team’s self-described bat boy and mascot.
