Sub-State basketball schedules
ELLSWORTH — The Lady ‘Cats are seeded third with their best season record in years (15-5) and play sixth-seeded Hoisington, who has an 8-11 season record, tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m. in Ellsworth. The teams are competing in the 3A Russell sub-state tournament and the victor will face the winner of the game between second-seeded Russell (17-3) or Minneapolis (5-15) Thursday, March 2 in Russell.
The fourth-seeded Ellsworth Bearcats won home court advantage with a 13-7 season record and will play a good fifth-seeded Thomas Moore Prep of Hays (11-8) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Ellsworth. The teams are competing in the 3A Russell sub-state tournament and the victor will face either top-seeded Norton (18-2) or Russell Friday, March 3 in Russell.
SYLVAN GROVE — The Wilson Dragons, seeded fourth in the Sylvan-Lucas Unified 1A Division II sub-State tournament, have an 11-9 season record and will face fifth-seeded Chase (7-13) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in Sylvan Grove. The winner will meet top-seeded Central Christian of Hutchinson Friday, March 3 in Sylvan Grove.
The Wilson Lady Dragons have the top seed with a 14-6 record in the Sylvan-Lucas Unified 1A Division II sub-State tournament and had a bye Monday. They will play the winner of the fourth-seeded Sylvan Lucas Unified (7-12) versus fifth-seeded Chase (6-13) Thursday, March 2 in Sylvan Grove.
CLAFLIN — The second-seeded Oilers will meet seventh-seeded Medicine Lodge (5-15) at 7 p.m. today (Monday) in Claflin. The victor will play the winner of the Macksville (14-6) and Ellinwood (6-14) game Thursday in Greensburg.
The top-ranked, undefeated and three-time defending 2A champion Lady Oilers of Central Plains are, of course, the top seed in the 2A Kiowa County sub-State tournament and will play a 6-17 Pratt-Skyline squad at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Claflin. The Lady O’s will play the winner of the fourth-seeded St. John-Hudson (10-9) and Macksville (10-10) contest Friday in Greensburg.
