Ellsworth County Commissioners lift burn ban.
By Mark Gardner
Ellsworth County I-R
Ellsworth County commissioners met in a special session on March 30 to rescind the burn ban resolution 17R06 that was implemented on March, 6.
After a major fire that destroyed over 28,000 acres of Russell and Ellsworth Counties, commissioners were left with no choice but to issue a burn ban until conditions throughout the counties improved.
The fuel load is still there, but commissioners feel that with a little over two inches of rain that has fallen the past two days will significantly reduce the chance of a wild fire starting. This lift of the ban will give farmers and residents in the county a chance to get what they need burned done.
The county wants everyone to burn safely and still use extreme caution when burning. If a fire does get out of control firefighters will be limited on how and where they can go with their equipment. With road conditions deteriorating because of the rain it might hinder the emergency vehicles on rural county roads. Burn with caution and follow proper procedures.
