Dorothy Anne Bodenhausen (1925-2017)

Dorothy Anne Bodenhausen, age 91, died May 3, 2017, in Burnsville, Minn.  She was born at home in Marquette, Kan., Aug. 18, 1925, delivered by her father Henry Huseman.

Dorothy attended a one room schoolhouse in Ellsworth, Kan., for grade school, Ellsworth High School, and Kansas State University. She was in the first class to graduate from KSU’s Dietetic Department in 1947. Dorothy met

Duane Miller at KSU, they were married in 1948, and had three children, Randall, Sandra, and Gregory. Duane died in 1970.  

Professionally, Dorothy interned at Scripps Metabolic Clinic in La Jolla, Calif., and worked as a dietitian in Topeka at Eventide Nursing Home, Topeka State Hospital and Stormont Vail Hospital. In 1977, she was elected President of the Kansas Dietetic Association and married Otto Bodenhausen.

Dorothy was an active volunteer at Grace Cathedral Episcopal Church, Daughters of the King, OptiMrs, and Let’s Help, Inc. She also loved to travel, play bridge, and spend time with family and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Grace Huseman; brothers, Roy and Wilbur Huseman; husbands, Duane Miller, Otto Bodenhausen; and stepdaughter Carol Bodenhausen.

She is survived by her children, Rand Miller of Hutchinson, Kan.; Sandie (Beers) Scalia and husband (George) of Burnsville, Minn.; Greg (Jeanne) Miller of Lawrence, Kan.; stepdaughter Judith Brooks of Oakland, Calif.; in addition to eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Episcopal Cathedral at 1 p.m., May 18.
