Stuck in the Mud

It’s been a hard winter for local ranchers like Terry Kueser. Cold temperatures, wet weather and mud. Lots of thick, sticky mud hamper Terry’s efforts to feed the commercial cattle herd he manages with his son, John, near Ellsworth.

“It’s been terribly hard,” Kueser said.“It’s been so damp.”

After months of dry, droughtlike conditions, moisture returned to the area this past summer and throughout the latter parts of 2018, replenishing farm ponds and pastures. But the precipitation the area needed for so long refuses to let up, challenging even the most experienced cattlemen.
