VOTE!

By John Schlageck

A wise man once said, If you don’t vote, someone else is voting for you on issues that are important in your life. This is particularly true as we head into the final stretch of the election season. There is plenty at stake for each one of us in the Kansas primary election Aug. 2. Elected officials responsible for helping determine our future, that of our children and our agricultural industry will be chosen that day.

BOMB THROWER

By LINDA MOWERY-DENNING

Politicians from both sides of the aisle throw darts. Some more than others. Our own Congressman Tim Huelskamp, a Tea Party Republican who lives in Hutchinson and farms at Fowler, has made pointing his finger at other politicians his life’s work. Huelskamp comes to Ellsworth County at least once a year.

CHOICES

By LINDA MOWERY-DENNING

Our favorite line at this past week’s candidate forum came from Ellsworth County attorney Joe Shepack, “Brownback is out of control as are his cronies in the Legislature.” Of course, the reason we enjoyed this comment so much is because we agree with every word. It will take years — if not a generation — to repair the damage done by Gov. Sam Brownback and his so-called conservative friends in the Kansas Legislature.
