Joseph 'Joe' Mazzotta

Joseph 'Joe' Mazzotta, 63, of Firestone, Colo. — husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and Marine — snuck out and passed away peacefully in his “own damn bed” Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, surrounded by his four loving sons.  

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Carol; mother Mary; father Joseph,; and sister Rosemarie.

He is survived by his brother Charles; sisters Gloria, Christine; and sons Joseph “Joey” (Fawn), Saverio “Jason” (Stacie), Anthony (Arianne), and Matthew (Trisha); eight granddaughters, and 3 grandsons.

A catered lunch will be held at noon, Nov. 11 for friends and family to laugh, cry and reminisce about Joe and Carol at Orozco’s Portales Cafe, located at 117 N. Kansas St., Kanopolis, Kan. 67454.

Raymond Leo Frederick

     Raymond Leo Frederick, 88, of Salina, Kan., passed away Friday, Nov. 3.  
     Ray was born in Wilson, Kansas on March 9, 1929, a son of the late Amalia (Miller) and Frederick George Frederick. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He was employed in transportation at R.C. Williams Inc., K-State Salina, and as a private mail hauler. Ray retired from Schwan’s after 22 years as a Semi Driver.
     Ray married Donna Schurr Oct. 7, 1956, in Luray, Kan. They were married 61 years.
     Survivors include his wife, Donna of the home; two daughters, Serena Frederick (Chris Keller), of Houston, Texas; and Beth Anderson (Jim), of Chesterfield, Mo. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Brad (Tiffany) of St. Peters, Mo. and Jared (Suzy) Anderson of Webster Grove, Mo.; and two great-grandchildren, James and Catherine Anderson of St. Peters, Mo.; and sister, Mary Koetkemeyer of Salina.

John K. Habiger (1948-2017)

John K. Habiger, 69, of Bushton, Kan., passed away Oct. 29, 2017, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kan.

John was born in Great Bend, Kan., on Sept. 6, 1948, the son of Paul and Anna (Heinz) Habiger. He was a graduate of Holy Name and Bushton High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Fort Hays State University in 1970.

John served his country as a United States Peace Corp Volunteer in the Kurdistan Providence of Iran. He was an Agricultural Agent and traveled in parts of Turkey and Afghanistan. Back in Bushton, he was an agent with Federal Crop Insurance Corp. He was also the Postmaster Relief in Bushton.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

John was preceded in death by his father, Paul Habiger May 15, 1983, and his partner of 26 years, Mary Mickel, Jan. 2, 2017.

Dwight C. Brady (1949-2017)

Dwight C. Brady, 89, passed away Oct. 27, 2017. He was born Jan. 29, 1928 to Lloyd and Marguerite (Schermerhorn) Brady in Carneiro, Kan.

Dwight married Eunice Little on May 1, 1949. He was a longtime resident of Ellsworth County and was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion and served his country in the US Army.

Dwight is survived by his son, Ron Brady (Cindy) of Kanopolis; daughter, Rhonda Smith (Barrie) of Missoula, Mont.; daughter, Debbie Binns (Mike) of Scott City; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Jo; and wife, Eunice.

Memorial graveside service is at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at Carneiro Cemetery.

Viola L. Jiricek

     Viola L. Jiricek, 82, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017 in Wilson.
     She was born Jan. 4, 1935, in Ellsworth County, to John and Marie (Janda) Borecky. Viola married Kenneth Henry Jiricek in Ellsworth on Nov. 9, 1954. She was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County and a secretary for a local attorney/district judge for nearly 50 years. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, and was a Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts Leader.
     Viola is survived by her son, Roy Jiricek (Dawn) of Ballwin City, Mo.; son, Daniel Jiricek (Pat) of Orange, Calif.; daughter, Mary Ann Stertz (Craig) of Lincoln, Kan.; grandchildren, Michelle, Kenneth, Jessica, Matthew, Kasey, and Lucas; great- grandchildren, Benjamin and Aurora; sister, Libbie Sebesta of Wilson, Kan.; sister, Mildred Hynes of Sylvan Grove, Kan.; and sister, Myrene Soukup (Robert) of Wilson, Kan.

Roger Dale Mikulecky (1951-2017)

Roger Dale Mikulecky, age 66, the son of Raymond Cecil and Helen Josephine (Soukup) Mikulecky, was born Sept. 17, 1951 in Wilson. He passed away Oct. 5, 2017 in Omaha, Neb.

Roger worked in food service management for over 27 years throughout the Midwest. He worked for such organizations as Iowa Beef Producers, Inc., Northern States Beef, Conagra Foods and also worked as a consultant in the industry. Roger really found a calling to the meat processing industry and thoroughly enjoyed his work. After many years in various maintenance positions in the industry, Roger had to reluctantly retire due to health reasons. His last maintenance position was at Ambassador Health.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen Mikuleck; and sister, Alice Mikulecky.

Velma Mae (Kaufman) Siefers (1927-2017)

Velma Mae (Kaufman) Siefers passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 in Manhattan, at the age of 90. She was born July 5, 1927 in rural Russell County, Kansas to the late George and Eva (Whitmer) Kaufman.

She grew up in the Dorrance area and graduated from Dorrance High School with the Class of 1945, then attended Brown Mackie College where she received a certificate in office administration. On Sept. 29, 1949 she was united in marriage to Orval M. “Casey” Siefers in Wilson. They were blessed with four children, Susan, Debbie, Bill, and Mary Kay.

Herbert 'Grant' Kubick (1957-2017

Herbert ‘Grant’ Kubick, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at his home near Westfall. He was born June 16, 1935 in Ellsworth County to Harry William and Thelma Irene (Magden) Kubick.

Grant married Darlene June McGuire in Ellsworth Sept. 7, 1957. She preceded him in death in 2011.

Grant served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was a retired commercial electrician and member of IBEW Local Union 124. He also loved to hunt and fish.

Grant is survived by his daughter, Laura Lea Kubick of Los Angeles, Calif.; great granddaughter, Khloe Love Kubick; sister, Hazel Haralson (Charles) of Murrayville, Ga.; a host of nieces and nephews and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Ann Lancaster; grandson, Kevin Kubick; grandson, Joshua Richie; sister, Rose Marie; and brother, William.

JoAnn Weber Tickel (1928-2017)

JoAnn Weber Tickel, 89, of Oceanside, Calif., passed away peacefully Aug. 10, 2017.  JoAnn was born in Wilson, Kan. on May 28, 1928.  

She graduated in 1946 from Wilson High and in 1951 from the University of Colorado, earning a BA degree. She taught school in Salina and Topeka before marrying Lou Tickel in 1953.  The couple had eight children: Mark, Lou Ann, Mike, Tamara, Laura, Larry (twins), Doug, and Brian. JoAnn was preceded in death by her children, Mark and Mike. She had 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  

She loved crosswords, crafts, sewing, animals and taking care of her family. She was a Junior Golf volunteer at the Salina Country Club and spent many hours watching her children play sports. She was loved deeply by her family and friends.  

A Catholic funeral mass and burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14 at St. Wenceslaus Church, Wilson.
