A Manhattan dentist for over 52 years died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018.

Dr. Clark Danner was born in Ellsworth, Kan. on Aug.14, 1928, son of Mary Helen Dulaney Danner and Van Earl Danner. He graduated from Ellsworth High School and received his B.S. degree in 1950 from Kansas State University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a cheerleader for K-State from 1948 to 1950. In 1954, he graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Mo. That summer, Clark and Nancy Leue were married prior to his re-entry to active duty in the United States Air Force. After leaving the service as a Captain, they moved to Manhattan, Kan. where he started a private dental practice in September of 1956.

Georgia Mary Wilkinson, 89, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 in Lyons, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 9, 1928 in Kanopolis to Ysidro and Jovita (Mesa) Diaz.

Georgia was a lifetime resident of Kanopolis where she was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church. She was a longtime member of the church council, altar society, church choir, and also served as treasurer. She was a past board member of the Ellsworth County Council on Aging and was a member of the Ellsworth County Election Board. In her early years after high school, she worked at the potato chip factory, Ida’s Potato Chips, in Kanopolis. She also spent some time babysitting and working at Bircher’s dairy and Elkan. She retired in 2003 from the Ellsworth County Medical Center as a cook after 19 years.

Lillian Maude Frances Campbell, 98, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 in Ellsworth.
She was born Feb. 21, 1919 in Ellsworth to William C. and Helena M. (Schwerdtfeger) Choitz. Lillian was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County where she waited tables and was a cook at the Good Samaritan Home and the White House Hotel.
She married Ben E. Koralek in Hutchinson on May 19, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1986. She then married Robert Campbell in Ellsworth on May 21, 1994. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Lillian was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ellsworth as well as a longtime Sunday school teacher and active member of the Ladies’ Aide organization.

Thomas Allen Sheridan, 70, of McPherson, Kan., passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Harry Hynes Hospice Center at Via Christi-St. Francis RMC, Wichita.

Robert (Bob) Hart, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord Jan. 5, 2018, at the age of 97 years. He was born at home in Ellsworth County, Kan. to Paul and Annie Dorothea Burmaster Hart Dec. 6, 1920. He grew up in Ellsworth, Kan. and attended Ellsworth High School. His chosen profession was in the printing trade, starting at the Ellsworth Reporter.

He began his family when he married his beloved wife, Jewel Judy Kimbro Hart in Cleveland, Ohio Nov. 1, 1946. They were married for 68 years before her passing April 28, 2015.

He was sworn into the Navy as an “Avengers of Pearl Harbor” in a mass ceremony on June 7 1942. He served under this proud title in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, with the ranking of First Class Petty Officer. During the last two years of WWII, he served in the South Pacific from New Guinea throughout the Philippines.

Thomas Lewis “Tom” Purma, 73, left this life Dec. 16, 2017 for a new one. He was born July 8, 1944, to Charles John and Betty (Moore) Purma, in Ellsworth County, Kan.  Both are deceased.

Tom leaves his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Y. (Davisson) Purma, of the home in Wilson, Kan.; two daugfhters, Kristin Ann (Purma) London and husband Scott; three lovely granddaughters, Kaela, Kendall and Chloe London, all of Highland Ranch, Colo., and Kerri Starr Purma, a nurse, who resides in Durango, Colo.

Tom also leaves behind a brother, Dr. Charles J. Purma II and wife Vickie (Nuss), of Scott City, Kan.
Carol, brought three children to their marriage, Sage Danielle Kicielinski (Furr), David Scott Furr and Courtney Dawn Schoolcraft (Furr). All reside in West Virginia. There are five step- grandchildren, Kara James, Kelsey Meadows, Nick, Michael and Savanna Garcia.  Also, one great-grandson, Taten James.

June Irene Gabbard, 77, passed away Jan. 1, 2018. She was born June 27, 1940 in Paradise, Kan. to Charles Arthur and Hettie (Hutchcraft) Reichard. She married Glenn Gabbard, Sr. in Miami, Okla. on Oct. 18, 1961 and she owned June’s Ceramics in Great Bend.

June is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Montoya of Holyrood; son, Glenn Gabbard, Jr. (Patty) of Claflin; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jim Reichard (Sherri) of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; Melvin Lee Harmon, son of Glenn and June Gabbard; brother, George Art Reichard; sisters, Roberta Waldron and Judy Reichard; and brother, Edward Reichard.

Private family services are planned for a later date.

A Celebration of Life service for Dr. John N. Flanders, age 88, of Cookeville, Tenn., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday Jan. 6 at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Charles McCaskey officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 until service time at the church.

Dr. Flanders passed away suddenly Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at his home.

He was born July 25, 1929 in Wichita, Kan. He was the son of Mary Elizabeth Nourse Flanders.

A visitation will be held for friends and family at O’Leary’s Celebration of Life Center from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday Jan. 6. A graveside service will be held in Topeka, Kan. at a future date.

Mabel Francis Bouley was born in Aurora, Kan. Oct. 17, 1923 to Frank and Melvina (Collette) Cote. She passed away on Dec. 29, 2017 in Des Moines, Iowa after a short illness.

Mabel was married in 1943 to Eugene Bouley. As a homemaker and mother, she enjoyed gardening and sewing as Gene’s career with Southwestern Bell took them across the state of Kansas. They lived 12 years in Ellsworth, Kan. where Mabel was a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Gene and Mabel retired in Topeka in 1976. After Gene’s death in 2009 Mabel moved to Norwalk, Iowa to be closer to family.

     Hulda Jean Bricker, 81, formerly of Ellsworth, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018 in Pittsburg, Kan. She was born Feb. 16, 1936 in Ellsworth County, Kan. to Rudolph and Hulda (Haase) Nienke.
Hulda married Rolla Dean Carr in Ellsworth on Dec. 24, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1961. She married William RJ Bricker in Ellsworth on March 29, 1974. He preceded her in death in 2013.
     Hulda was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth as well as the LWML and VFW Auxiliary.
     Hulda is survived by her son, Phil Carr of Pittsburg; step-daughters, Dody Bricker of Solomon, Kan. and Trudy Lough of Salina, Kan.; sisters, Velma Perez of Gypsum, Kan. and Lois Holtz of Salina; grandson, Cameron Carr; granddaughter, Colby Carr; step-granddaughters, Abigail Lough and Nikki Nestler; step-grandson, Matt Nestler; and several great-grandchildren.
