Gail Marie Kohls, 80, of El Dorado, passed away Aug. 10, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. Gail was born to John and Dorothy Korinek on May 25, 1935 in Chicago, Ill. The family moved to Ellsworth, Kan. Gail graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953. She graduated from Fort Hays State University, taught two years at Natoma, Kan. and retired in El Dorado after teaching there 36 years. On May 30, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Everett Kohls. They were married for 61 years. Gail is preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Korinek, step-mother Ora, son David Arlan, nephews Jason Korinek and Eric Fox and brother-in-law Jerry Montgomery.

He was born March 1, 1930 in Bogue, Kan. to K.B. and Caroline Smith. He attended school in Solomon. He worked in construction and retired from Salina Building Systems. He enjoyed being outdoorsand was an avid fisherman. Joe married Betty Nichols-Smith June 11, 1955. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Jenessa Jenae Hlad, 19, Sylvan Grove, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015. Funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the Sylvan-Lucas Unified gymnGrace (Wilkens) Johnson, 77, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at her home in Holyrood. She was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Lorraine. She was the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Kruse) Wilkens. A resident of Holyrood since 2005, moving from the farm three miles east of town, Grace was a housewife. She was also a member of Women’s Ministry Fellowship, the First Baptist Church of Lorraine, American Legion Auxiliary of Holyrood, and Red Hat Holyrood Stars. She worked part-time at Quivira Heights Jr. High School in the computer lab. On Aug. 30, 1958 Grace married Richard E. Johnson. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Delbert Wilkens; and son-in-law, Andy Child.
