A recent story from the Associated Press outlines the problems faced by the Kansas Department of Corrections in finding new employees. “They are leaving state prisons in droves because of low pay, creating a public safety crisis that legislators will have to deal with on top of plugging a budget hole,” wrote AP’s John Hanna.

Mary, a virgin, was living in Galilee of Nazareth and was engaged to be married to Joseph, a Jewish carpenter. An angel visited her and explained to her that she would conceive a son by the power of the Holy Spirit. She would carry and give birth to this child and she would name him Jesus. At first Mary was afraid and troubled by the angel’s words.

Ellsworth County’s Emergency Medical Service has received state-wide attention in recent weeks, thanks to a Dec. 1 wreck that left two employees injured. Jeremiah Brown and Rick Soukup are both away from work — Soukup for two or three months, Brown for at least a year. The two were on an ambulance run from Ellsworth to Salina when their ambulance collided with a farm truck near Brookville.
