If he were a superhero, Larry Temple might be called The Blur. His rate of movement around the stage doesn’t permit him to show up well in photographs. After a lot of activity, he suddenly sits down and almost disappears.

The Ellsworth Fire Department puts out a fire March 14 at 1135 Old Highway 40. The fire, which started in a burn pile and was fanned by high winds, was spotted from the road by department member Heath Ehrlich. The resident said she was aware of the county’s burn ban, which remains in effect. Chief Bob Kepka said the cause was unknown. Since March 8, anyone within Ellsworth County must possess a burn permit before starting a fire.

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are seeking information from the public about the defacement of a Native American petroglyph. A bison shape carved into the surface of a rock surface within Ellsworth County, was discovered to have two names, Isaac and Emily, scratched within the interior of the petroglyph and immediately below it. The petroglyph measures about 9 and a half by 6 inches. USACE officials requested the location of the petroglyph site not be made public, in order to protect it from those who might wish to deliberately damage it.

Brick plant has been part of Kanopolis for five decades

Article Image Alt Text

By Vince Hancock
