Thaemert-Miller

Rachel Ann Thaemert and Austin Lyle Miller, both of Salina, are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.

The bride-to-be’s parents are Shelley(Harris) and John Thaemert, Sylvan Grove.

The groom-elect’s parents are Lynn (Tolson) and Roger Miller, Assaria.

Thaemert graduated from Ellsworth High School in 2013, and Kansas Wesleyan University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She is employed at the Ell-Saline Elementary School, Salina.

Miller graduated from Southeast of Salina in 2011, and Salina Area Technical College in 2013 with an Associates Degree in Machinist. He is employed with Geoprobe in Salina

The wedding will take place June 9, 2018, at the University United Methodist Church, Salina.

Glennys Bruning celebrating 80 years

Glennys Jeanette (Naegele) Bruning was born Dec. 30, 1937 in Ellsworth.

Glennys grew up in Ellsworth. She met and married Leroy Bruning who is also from Ellsworth. They have been married 61 years and have raised six children. She spent those years raising her children and helping Leroy on the farm. They still live on the home place.

Her children would like you to help Glennys celebrate her 80th birthday by sending birthday wishes to 166 N. 120th Road, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.

Grothusens celebrate birthdays

December is birthday month for Dorothy Neuschafer Grothusen, 95, and Dale Grothusen, 99.

Both were born in rural Ellsworth county; Dorothy, Dec. 1, 1922, and Dale, Dec. 17, 1918.

They were married June, 30, 1945, in Seattle, Wash., after Dale returned from service in WWII. He had completed 51 combat missions in Europe on the crew of B-17 bombers with the US Army Air Force.

The Grothusens farmed near Ellsworth for 70 years, running a wheat farm-cattle stock operation. Dale especially enjoyed projects in his machine shop.

Clara Ann Demel

Skye and Anthony Demel, Wilson, announce the birth Nov. 18, 2017, of their daughter, Clara Ann Demel, at Hays Medical Center.

She weighed 8 pounds and 4 ounces, and was 20 inches long. She is welcomed home by big brother, Erich.

Maternal grandparents are Dale and Carmen Homeier of Wilson.

Paternal grandparents are Dale Demel of Odin and Shelley Yahne of Great Bend.

Maternal great-grandparents are Zona Homeier, Wilson, and the late Fred Homeier.

Paternal great-grandparents are the late August and Katherine Demel, who lived at Odin.

Boyers celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Dennis and Jean Thornsberry Boyer celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 2.

The Boyers were married in 1957. In 2005 they moved to Lorraine from Fayetteville, Ark, where Dennis, co-founder and charter president of the Arkansas Association of Masters in Psychology, had served a term as member and chairman of the Arkansas Psychology Board. He is a past Vice President General of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and manages the Society’s Patriot Index as a dual life member with Kansas Society SAR. He retired in 2004 after 33 years as a psychological examiner with Arkansas Rehabilitation Society. He is currently mayor of Lorraine.

Jean, a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, retired in 2004 from the Fayetteville Public Library Genealogy Collection, and continues her pursuit of genealogy and family history.

Camden Peary Weinhold

Holly and PJ Weinhold, Ellsworth, announce the birth July 5 of their son, Camden Peary Weinhold, at Hays Medical Center.Camden weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and was 20 1/4 inches.

He is welcome home by big sister Ainsley.

Maternal grandparents are Kerry and Evelyn Woods of Ellsworth. Paternal grandparents are Peary and Laura Weinhold of Kanopolis and Ruth Staley of Salina, and the late Dwight Staley who lived at Salina.

Maternal great-grandparent are Bob and Kit Hill of Fort Worth, Texas and the late Adeline and Earl Woods. Paternal great-grandparents are the late Clyde and Dorothy Bear and the late Alvin and Mildred Sweeden.

Club News

Ash Creek 4-H

The Ash Creek 4-H club had its monthly meeting Oct. 8 to participate in 48 Hours of 4-H.

The club started with the older members working on highway clean-up while the younger members picked up trash at Preisker Park in Ellsworth.

Reunion

Frank Doubrava Sr. and J. J. Barta Family

The Frank (Frantisec) Doubrava Sr.and J. J. Barta family reunion gathered Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Ellsworth Senior Center.

A potluck dinner with some ethnic food was enjoyed by all with a business meeting following. Hosts for the event were Ralph Doubrava and the Hoch Family.

Our family regularly checks out movies from the local library. We watch the movie and then comes everyone’s favorite part — the deleted scenes and bloopers. These are so popular in our culture that even animated films are creating blooper scenes. We are able to laugh at the mistakes of our favorite celebrities and Pixar characters. So what does this have to do with holiday food?
