Keith D. Foskett

Keith D. Foskett, 54, passed away at his home in Lorraine, Kan. March 5, 2017. He was born March 6, 1962 in Great Bend, KS to Harlan E. and Goldie (Foiles) Foskett.

Keith worked as an auto mechanic, well pumper, and roustabout handyman. He married Rhonda Sue Barnhill in 1992. She survives him.

Keith is also survived by his sons, Shawn St. Clair of Little Rock, Ark. and Joshua Alan Barnhill of Geneseo, Kan.; daughters, Serena Barnhill of Ellis County, Kan. and Katrina Barnhill of Sylvan Grove, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Harlan E. Foskett, Jr. (Mary Lou) of Amarillo, Texas, Mike Foskett of Kingman, Kan., and Stanley Foskett (Denda) of Bazine, Kan.; and sisters, Debra Berends of Great Bend and Sharon White (Michael) of WaKeeney, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Gary and Randall “Red” Foskett.

Andrew 'Andy' Magana (1927-2017)

Andrew “Andy” Magaña, 90, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 in the comfort of his home in Chula Vista, Calif. after a long illness.  

He was born to Jesus and Sara Magaña (deceased) and raised in Kanopolis, Kan..  He graduated from Kanopolis High School in 1945.  
Andrew is survived by his wife, Angela of the home; children, Andra Magaña Bunch (Irineo) of Beverly, Kan., Frank Magaña (Donna) of Layton, Utah, Lisa Magaña Walsh (Frank) of Portland, Ore., Martha Rojas Flor, Elisa de la Flor and Natalia Flor of Chula Vista; grandchildren Mike Bunch ( Dawnae) of Kanopolis; Angie Farmer (Dan) of Franklin, Nebraska; Jayson Magaña and Bryan Magaña of Layton, Utah; Angela Tomlinson, and Julio, Luis, Monica of Chula Vista; 5 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.  He is also survived by four siblings:  Virginia Caldwell, of Arizona; Jesse Magaña, of Brookville; Frank Magaña, of Kansas City; and Concepcion Magaña, of Wichita.

F. Rosalie Williams (1919-2017)

F. Rosalie Williams passed away on Feb. 27, 2017 at Sandstone Heights, Little River, Kan.  

She was born on March 5, 1919 in Wichita, Kan. to Ray and Alta (Hensley) McCutcheon. She was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth and Rice County where she was a school teacher at Langley, Thomas, and Eagle College schools and worked at Little River School in the office. She graduated from Little River High School and Emporia State Teacher College.

She married Lester Williams on July 27, 1941 in Ellsworth County. He preceded her in death in 2010.

She was a member of Marquette United Methodist Church, LEH, VFW Auxiliary Post 6485 and American Legion Auxiliary Post 174 both of Ellsworth.

Maurice Lee Dohrman (1937-2017)

Maurice Lee Dohrman, 79, passed away Feb. 28, 2017. He was born Sept. 3, 1937 in Great Bend, Kan. to Viola Ann (Habiger) and William C. Dohrman.

Maurice married Betty Schroeder on May 29, 1958 at Holy Name Catholic Church, Bushton. He was a pork producer and a farmer. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and was also a Scout Master for Troop 175 of Bushton in the 1970s.

Larry Lee Sawyer, 75, passed away Feb. 26, 2017 in Lyons, Kan.

The family has chosen cremation and Parsons Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.

Paul Karl Mai (1931-2017)

Paul Karl Mai, 85, of Salina, Kan., passed away quietly in his sleep Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017.

Paul was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Schonungen, Germany to his parents Albert and Frieda (Schneider) Mai. He was married to Betty Jo Mai, who passed away in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ludwig Mai, Günter (Rosie) Mai, and Tony Mai; and sister, Hiltrud Mai, of Schonungen, Germany.

He is survived by his friend, Heidi Hilburn; four daughters, Frieda (Randy) Weis, Marilyn (Dan) Stone, Julie Mai and Karin Mai; grandchildren, Amanda and Paul Roland, Fredi and Rachel Weis, and Sam and Caroline Stone; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Luci Roland; brother, Reiner Mai, all from Salina; sister-in-law, Frieda (Ludwig) Mai, of Schonungen, Germany; stepdaughter, Dr. Marie (Dan) Lumley, of Kansas City, Mo.; and many special nieces and nephews.

Bradley James Poppelreiter (1959-2017)

Bradley James Poppelreiter, 57, passed away Feb. 26, 2017 in Holyrood. He was born June 27, 1959 in Hoisington, Kan. to Dee (Blankenship) and Clarence Poppelreiter. He was an operator at Enron National Gas Plant in Bushton, Kan. and operated his own vending distribution company.

Bradley is survived by his son, Brady Poppelreiter of Manhattan; daughter, Chantel Poppelreiter of Great Bend; parents, Clarence and Dee Poppelreiter of Holyrood; brothers, Joe Poppelreiter (Kelly) of Hutchinson, Mike Poppelreiter of Holyrood, and Bill Poppelreiter (Shelly) of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; former wife, Marla Martin-Poppelreiter of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 1 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

Muriel Ardith Modrow (1934-2017)

Muriel Ardith Modrow, 82, passed away Feb. 19, 2017. She was born April 17, 1934, in Lincoln, KS, to Virgil and Fern (Brown) Bunch.

Ardith married Marvin Dale Modrow on March 26, 1952 in Lincoln. She was a lifetime resident of Kanopolis, a retired daycare provider of 39 years and a homemaker. She was a member of the Kanopolis Civic Club, American Legion Post 174 Auxiliary, and VFW Post 6485 Auxiliary, as well as, an avid bowler.

Ardith is survived by her husband, Marvin Dale of Kanopolis; son, Richard Modrow (Connie) of Kanopolis; son, Jack Modrow (Joan) of Kanopolis; daughter, Connie Panzer (Robert) of Ellsworth; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Rusty Bunch (Barb) of Kanopolis; sister, Jeannie Fuqua of Garden City; sister, Melba Bunch of Garden City; and sister, Jolene Reynolds (Paul) of Fairview.

Glenn Harvey Gabbard, Sr. (1933-2017)

Glenn Harvey Gabbard, Sr., 83, passed away Feb. 16, 2017. He was born Aug. 17, 1933 in Afton, Okla. to Silas Miller and Martha (Warren) Gabbard. He married June Reichard in Miami, Okla. on Oct. 18, 1961. He was a mechanic at a service station in Oklahoma and Great Bend, Kan.

Glenn is survived by his wife, June Gabbard of Holyrood; daughter, Cheryl Montoya of Holyrood; son, Glenn Gabbard, Jr. (Patty) of Claflin; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Thompson of Miami, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Melvin Lee Harmon, son of Glenn and June Gabbard; and sister, Helen Rice.

Cremation will take place and no services are planned at this time.

Esther V. (Benda) Noren (1930-2017)

Esther V. (Benda) Noren, 86, formerly of Oberlin, Kan., passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at Prairie West Assisted Living in Ellsworth, Kan.  
She was born Aug. 24, 1930, on a farm near Achilles, Kan., to Robert and Hazel (Hurst) Benda.  
Esther attended Achilles Grade School and graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin with the Class of 1948. She taught one year at District 218 Valley View School, which was a one-room school.
On Aug. 5, 1949, Esther married Willard Noren.  They lived on two different farms west of Oberlin where they raised their three children.  As a housewife, mother and grandma, Esther loved gardening, sewing, learning and birds.
Esther was active in the Herndon Covenant Church with the choir, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School as a teacher, and Covenant Women. She also was on the Community Advisory Board of the Good Samaritan Society.
