Adeline Marie Bartunek (1922-2016)

Adeline Marie Bartunek, age 94, died on Nov. 29, 2016, in Salina. She was born on Feb. 1, 1922, in Lincoln County, the daughter of John Alouis and Agnes Stehno Klema. She grew up in Kanopolis and graduated in 1940 from Kanopolis High School.

Adeline married William E. Bartunek in 1941, and they farmed in rural Ellsworth County near Black Wolf until his death on March 29, 1976. Adeline was a housewife and a great cook. She began making wedding cakes for friends and family in the 1950s. She moved into Ellsworth in 1976, and for 20 years continued baking special occasion and wedding cakes for others. In 2009, she moved to Salina where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bartunek; daughter, Marilyn Jo Bettenbrock; parents, John and Agnes Klema; brothers, Victor, Rudolph, Richard, and Arthur Klema; sister, Mildred Katzenmeier; granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Bartunek; and special friend, Joe Dolechek.

Richard Ernest Wolting (1936-2016)

Richard Ernest Wolting passed away on Nov. 27, 2016 in Lincoln at the age of 80.
 

Richard was born to Waldemar and Alberta (Lohmann) Wolting on Oct. 4, 1936 in rural Lincoln County. Richard attended St. John Lutheran School and Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1954. Richard was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church and a lifelong member. Richard was a farmer and stockman, retiring in 2013. He served on the Lincoln rural fire board for several years. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities. Attending his grandchildren, Cody and Courtney’s musical programs and watching grandson, Lance pitch at baseball games were his greatest joys.

Richard married Anna Marie Panzer on March 8, 1959. To this union, two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sandra Lynn Burch (1950-2016)

Sandra Lynn Burch, 66, Marquette, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 at Salina.

She was born Feb. 9, 1950 in Wheeler, Texas. She married Ronnie K. Burch March 30, 1972 at the First United Methodist Church, Spearman, Texas. He survives.

Sandra worked and enjoyed her time at the Kansas Park Service. She also enjoyed bringing food to the Salina Rescue Mission. After Sandra recovered from cancer, she enjoyed going to Holiday Resort to help uplift others that were going through what she had been through.

Sandra is also survived by her daughter, Sonja Griffith, and fiancé Daniel Davis, of Blue Springs, Mo.; her son, Kenneth E. Burch and husband Joie Beth of Whitney, Texas; four grandchildren, Allyx Burch, Andie Burch, Baylie Burch and Faith Griffith; a sister,  Sharon, and husband Larry E. Hannon, of Crowell, Texas.

Sandra was cremated. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26 at Lake Kanopolis, Shore Outdoor Chapel, Kanopolis.

Martin Hochman (1922-2016)

Martin Hochman, Jr., 94, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 at his home near Ellsworth.
He was born Nov. 1, 1922 in Ellsworth County to Martin Sr. and Emma (Hanzlicek) Hochman. A lifetime resident of Ellsworth County, Martin was a farmer and stockman and a member of Ellsworth Lodge146 AF&AM.
He married Edna Boyer in Lincoln, Kan. on April 4, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2002.
Martin is survived by his son, Myron Hochman (Dianne) of Lorraine; daughters, Dianne Rogers of Lorraine, Roxie Janssen (Jack) of Geneseo, and Sharrilyn Smith (Troy) of Wichita; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Marlin and Marty IV.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today  (Thursday, Nov. 17) at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present 6-8 p.m.

Glenn H. Breford (1932-2006)

Glenn H. Breford, 84, passed away Nov. 12, 2016 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood, Kan.
He was born Aug. 11, 1932 in Wilson, Kan. to Herman John and Marie (Pfieffer) Breford. Glenn graduated from Holyrood High School in 1950 and later joined the U.S. Army where he served his country from 1953-1955. He married Joan Stumps and together they had four children. He later married Anna Maria Erdman on Sept. 18, 1982 in Ellinwood. She passed away June 21, 2010. Glenn was an Ellinwood resident since 1981. He formerly lived in the Holyrood area where he was the owner of Breford & Sons Construction Company. His memberships included St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the local American Legion.
Survivors include son, Mark Breford (Terri), Holyrood; sister, Marilyn Kaiser, Claflin; and step-grandsons, Kenny Stroede (Lauren), Great Bend and Jason Stroede (Kim), Holyrood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Anna (Erdman) Breford.

Jan René Nelson (1956-2016)

Jan René Nelson, 60, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in Ellsworth. She was born May 12, 1956 in Topeka, Kan.

Jan was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ellsworth, the J.H. Robbins Memorial Library board, and FCE. She married Curtis Nelson in Great Bend on Aug. 10, 1985. He survives her.

Jan is also survived by her son, David Nelson (Carissa) of Great Bend; daughter, Jennifer Garcia (Frank) of Harrison, Ark.; step-daughter, Alethea Nelson of Las Vegas, Nev.; mother, Deon Lupton of Great Bend; sisters, Susan Weaver (Brad) of Springfield, Mo. and Paula Lupton of Great Bend; grandchildren, Samantha, Sara, Micah, Zander, Lauren, Macy, and Steven; and great-granddaughter, McKinley.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gail Lupton and brother, Brent Lupton.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present 6-8 p.m.

Barbara Lynn Sherard (1941-2016)

Barbara Lynn Sherard, 75, Springfield, Mo., passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016. She was born June 26, 1941 in Ellsworth, Kan. to Glenn Patterson and Charlotte Patterson. She married Paul R. Sherard June 15, 1969 in Ellsworth. He died April 17, 2007.

Mrs. Sherard attended Fort Hays State University where she earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. She was a school teacher for many years. She enjoyed bird watching, golf and spending time at the lake with her family, and was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter #32 Order of the Eastern Star, Lyons, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Donald, Richard and Warren Patterson.

She is survived by children, Vance Sherard and his wife Sayla, Springfield, Brett Sherard, Manassas, Va. and Shari Sherard in Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

June M. Buttenhoff (1919-2016)

June M. (Carlson) Buttenhoff, 97, Sylvan Grove, died Oct. 16, 2016, in Wilson.
She was born June 26, 1919, in McPherson County to Helga Peterson Carlson and John Carlson.
She married George Buttenhoff Sept. 12, 1953, at McPherson. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Mark Buttenhoff and wife, Glenda, of Sylvan Grove; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was Oct. 29 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lucas.

Frances Evelyn Keyes

     Frances Evelyn Keyes, 90, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016 in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 25, 1926 in Claflin to Emil and Orie (Belt) Kratky.
A longtime resident of Claflin, Frances worked in food service at Barton County Community College and was a member of the Great Bend VFW Auxiliary.
     She married Rex Henry Keyes April 25, 1947 in Ellsworth. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Victor Kratky; and sisters, Helen Meggers and Elma Kratky.
     Frances is survived by her daughter, Lana Besthorn of Claflin; son, Alan Keyes of Salina; sister, Alice Johnson of Chickasha, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
     No visitation is planned.
     Graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Palacky Cemetery in rural Ellsworth County.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Claflin Ambulance Fund, in care of Parsons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.

Pauline Rita Brubaker (1925-2016)

(1925-2016)

Pauline Rita (Woodmansee) Brubaker, 91, died Oct. 25, 2016 in Mulvane, Kan.
She was born Jan. 24, 1925 in Waltham, Ma. to Alderic and Angeline (Levesque) LaPierre.
Pauline worked in nursing homes for 28 years. She was a certified dietary manager. Before coming to Kansas, she worked at Raytheon in Massachusetts during WWII. Her hobbies were playing cards, sewing, crocheting, traveling and fitness. She was a member of St. John the Baptiste Catholic Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary both of Clyde, KS, and the Clifton Senior Center and Historical Society.
She is survived by her son, Kent L. Woodmansee (Betty) of Greenville, Texas; daugthers, Angela G. Mooneyham of Wichita and Leona LaPierre of Caldwell; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
