Lloyd Joseph 'Joe' Allen (1926-2016)

Lloyd Joseph “Joe” Allen, 89, passed away Aug. 16, 2016 in Wichita, Kan. Joe was born to Loyd and Rose (Padlasek) Allen Dec. 12, 1926 in Wilson, Kan.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, after which he married his late wife, Martha (Regier), in August 1950. They were married for 46 years. He married Pat, his loving wife of 18 years, in July 1998.
During his life Joe worked drilling wells for Layne Western Company, was Chief Operator at Mission Water Plant, Newton, Kan., owner and operator of Allen’s Registered Guernsey Dairy, Halstead, Kan., driver for Hertz Car Rental and real estate agent for Goering Realty, Moundridge, Kan.
He is preceded in death by parents, Loyd and Rose; wife, Martha; and sister, Dr. Almeda Ann Decker, Chicago, Ill.

Brent Tyler Barkow (1963-2016)

Brent Tyler Barkow, 52, went home to Jesus on Sat., Aug. 13, 2016. He was born Sept. 24, 1963.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lindsay, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Novotny and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barkow.
He is survived by his daughter Chloe Elizabeth and son, Logan Tyler; parents, Richard and Leeona Barkow; sister, Lisha Cannon (Dennis); and nephews, Samuel Tyler and Louis Richard along with many aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.  
A Celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Brent Tyler Barkow Memorial Fund (to be designated at a later date), in care of Parsons Funeral Home P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, Ks.  67439.

Georgia I. Nowlin (1925-2016)

Georgia I. Nowlin, 91, died Aug. 13, 2016 in Ellsworth. She was born Jan. 14, 1925 in Picher, Okla., the daughter of John and Blanche Norwood. She was a retired lab technician at Ellsworth Hospital.
On Feb. 14, 1941, she married Neal K. Nowlin. He preceded her in death, Feb. 27, 1995.
Also preceding her were daughters, Gloria Haworth and Rita Carswell.
She is survived by daughters; Katy Frederking of Wilson and Carolyn Brubaker of Ellsworth; sons, Neal of Kanopolis, Jack of Ft. Worth, Texas and Gary of Branson, Mo., along with 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., Aug. 16 at Parsons Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
Funeral will be at 2:30 Aug. 17 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Kanopolis Methodist Church in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, Ks. 67439.

Earl Dennis Gourley Jr.

     Earl Dennis Gourley, Jr., 82, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at his home in Kanopolis. He was born July 27, 1934 in Ellsworth to Earl Sr. and Albina (Soukup) Gourley.
Earl was a lifetime resident of the Ellsworth/Kanopolis area where he worked 17 years as the director of the Ellsworth County Noxious Weed Department and was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Kanopolis. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
     Earl married Evelyn Naegele Dec. 25, 1956 in Lincoln. They were married for nearly 60 years. She survives him.

Velma C. Klema (1915-2016)

Velma C. Klema, 101, died July 24, 2016, at Wilson.
Mrs. Klema was born July 12, 1915, at Ellsworth to Joe and Rose (Warta) Valenta.
She married Victor Klema on Aug. 24, 1937, at Wilson. He preceded her in death, along with her parents and a sister, Alice Vlcek.
Survivors include a nephew, Doug (Renee) Vlcek of Wilson; and a niece, Carol (Roland) Buehler of East Wenatchee, Wash.
The funeral was July 28, 2016 at the Foster Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Wilson City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Lang Memorial Library.

Eunice L. Brady (1929-2016)

   Eunice L. Brady, 86, passed away Aug. 9, 2016 in Lindsborg, Kan. She was born Aug. 15, 1929 to Arch Little and Aneita (Keller) in Ellsworth County. She married Dwight Brady in Ellsworth County May 1, 1949.
   Eunice received her teaching degree from Kansas Wesleyan University. She was a homemaker, teacher, Boogaart’s grocery store clerk, and a clerk at various local stores. She was a member of the Ellsworth First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ellsworth.

Kimberly Ann Sheesley (1983-2016)

 Kimberly Ann Sheesley, 32, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 in Ellsworth. She was born, Sept. 16, 1983 in Colorado Springs, CO to Burton and Sara Sheesley. Kim worked as an aide at Mosaic and attended Harvest Bible Church both in Ellsworth. Survivors include her sons; Caleb Sheesley and Paul Ludden, mother, Sara Mobley, all of Ellsworth; father, Burton Sheesley of Florence, CO; brother, Patrick Sheesley of Wilson, KS; Grandmother, Carrie Dickens of Ellsworth; Great Grandmother, Wilma Sandoval of Hardin, MT and her nephews, Rylan and Bronson Sheesley of Wilson.

Visitation will be Sunday 1-8 p.m. with her family present 1-4 p.m. at Parsons Funeral Home. Funeral service, 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 at Harvest Bible Church, Ellsworth. Melvin E. Hoss (1934-2016)


Melvin E. Hoss, 82, passed away July 22, 2016 in Ellsworth. He was born March 6, 1934 in Kanopolis, KS to Harold and Helen (White) Hoss.
  A lifetime resident of Kanopolis, Melvin married Sharon L. Monfort in Ellsworth on October 12, 1984. He was a farmhand/ranchhand and a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanopolis.
  Melvin is survived by his nephew, Terry Hoss (Carol) of Kanopolis; niece, Judy Root (Robert) of Fredrick; granddaughter, Tiffani Graham of St. Francis; great-niece, Heather Hoss of Ellsworth; great-nephew, Scott Hoss of Ellsworth; niece, Barb Holm (Jeff) of Ellsworth; and niece, Diane Mangels of Parker, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon; sisters, Roberta Hoss, and Phyllis Fleming; brother, Willard Hoss; and nephew, William Fleming.

Paul M. Young (1916-2016)

Paul M. Young
(1916-2016)

     Paul M. Young, age 100, died on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, Kan.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1916 in Seaman, Ohio the son of Clarence P. and Jessie Lee (McClure) Young.  Paul graduated from Seaman High School with the class of 1933.  He earned his A.B with Honors in Mathematics from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1937 and later his M.A. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Ohio State University in 1941. In 1942, he was commissioned into the United States Naval Reserves and instructed at the Naval Reserve Midshipmen’s School and served as a navigator on the USS Hamblen during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Lieutenant.

Ione C. (Sanders) Sharp (1925-2016)

 Ione C. (Sanders) Sharp, 91, passed away July 12, 2016.
She was born to William and Grace (Gwinner) Sanders on March 1, 1925 in a blizzard in Holyoke, Colo. She married Dennis Sharp on Dec. 25, 1943. They moved from Colorado to Kanopolis, Kan. Ione was grateful to find such a nice town and nice people to raise her family there.
Ione was baptized in March of 1969 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved reading the Bible. One of her favorite scriptures was Revelation 21: 3 and 4, which speaks of a resurrection here on earth because Heaven has never experienced death, tears, sorrow or pain. Ione spent the rest of her life telling others her hope for the future. She even spent a few years in full-time volunteer ministry.
Ione is survived by her son, Melvin Sharp of Holten, Kan.; daughter, Margie Sharp of Ellsworth; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
