Three qualify for state cross country

This past Saturday, the Ellsworth High School cross country team competed in the 3A Regional, hosted at the Ellsworth Golf Course. The top 10 runners and top three teams at each of the 3A Regionals around the state advance to the State Championships at Rim Rock Farm north of Lawrence on Oct. 28. There were around 150 young men and women from 15 schools competing for a chance to run at State. At the end of the meet, EHS qualified one runner for the state meet in Lawrence, Josiah Bolton.

‘Cats fall to Hoisington

The Ellsworth Bearcats fell hard Friday to the Hoisington Cardinals by a score of 45-8.

The Cards’ defense held strong against the Cats’ offense the majority of plays, scoring all but one of the seven touchdowns of the game.

Central Plains shuts down Ellinwood

The Central Plains Oilers dominated cross-county rivals, the Ellinwood Eagles, in a 64-0 victory Friday night at Claflin. This was the Oilers first home shutout of the season. The victory improved the Oilers record to 6-1 while the Eagles dropped to 1-6.

The first quarter was extremely successful for the O-Men, earning 42 of their 64 points. Less than 15 seconds into the game, junior Alex Hickel ran 66 yards off a kickoff return for the first touchdown of the game. Senior Anthony Oberle delivered the PAT to add to the Oilers score.

‘Cats take league title

The Ellsworth Bearcats defeated the Minneapolis Lions and picked up the North Central Activities Association league title, despite battling tough weather conditions.

The Cats were able to jump to a 14-0 lead Friday night before rain and lightning stopped play. Quarterback Zac Schneider started the scoring with a 4-yard run with 6:29 left in the first quarter. The PAT was no good.

The victory secured them at least a share of the North Central Activities Association league title.

KINSLEY — The 2-1 Central Plains Oilers took on the 0-3 Kinsley Coyotes Friday in Kinsley. The Oilers had no trouble with the Coyotes, earning their first shutout of the season. Central Plains would go on to grab the 68-0 victory by halftime.

Dragons rule in Homecoming victory
