Parents are Jeff and Kristi Reed, Salina; Donnie and Janette Buttery, Bennington; and Chad and Stacy Zamecnick, Hays.

Mikayla and Donavon both graduated from Bennington High School. The bride elect graduated in December from Bethany College, with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She teaches third grade at Lincoln. Donavon works for the State of Kansas.

Rebecca Hochman and Mark Hoffhines

Myron and Dianne Hochman, of Lorraine, are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Rebecca Michelle, to Mark Allen Hoffhines, son of Edward and Anita Hoffhines, Kanopolis.

The bride elect is a 2012 graduate of Ellsworth High School. She has an Associate’s degree from Barton Community College in early childhood education and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Emporia State University in 2018. Rebecca teaches second grade at Village Elementary School in Emporia.

The prospective groom is a 2010 graduate of Ellsworth High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in history/government education in 2014 from Pittsburg State University. Mark will graduate in May with his Master’s degree in sports management from Wichita State University.

The couple will wed June 8, at St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holyrood.

Vitamin D and sun protection

Vitamin D is also called the “sunshine vitamin” and is known for its role in building and maintaining strong bones. Current studies are exploring vitamin D’s role in health and disease prevention while research shows that more than three out of four Americans have inadequate vitamin D levels.

Because it is referred to as the sunshine vitamin, you might think that vitamin D comes from the sun. However, vitamin D is unique as it is made in the human body when skin is exposed to the ultraviolent (UV) light in the sun’s rays. Unfortunately, vitamin D can be found in only a handful of foods such as oily fish.

Attendees at the spring Fashion Show and Luncheon April 13 enjoy lunch and the outfits modeled.

In what has become an annual spring event, the Classy Lady Boutique Fashion Show and Luncheon, held in conjunction with the Ellsworth County Medical Center Auxiliary, was Saturday, April 13, at the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church. Spring fashions were modeled by local women with proceeds going to benefit the hospital auxiliary. Attendees enjoy discounts at the boutique for a month. From education to economic development to special nights, spring will deliver a variety of activities for residents across Ellsworth County.

Here is a sampling of events for April. For contact information and other events, check out our weekly I-R calendar on Page A2.

Run Wilson dedicates the renovation of the Wilson School field event track at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 10. Junior High track meet to follow at noon. This is a change of day because of the weather forecast.
