Memorial Day Weekend offers activities

For the 93rd year, Marquette will conduct its annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Events start Monday, May 27, at Marquette’s Riverview Estates with a flag raising ceremony and continue to four area cemeteries.

The Riverview ceremony opens at 9 a.m. with members of the Marquette American Legion on hand to perform military honors while the Marquette Community Chorus, under the direction of Allan Lindfors, provides the music.

Thunder on the Smoky brings motorcycle buffs and many others to the streets of Marquette.

Residents of Marquette and bikers from across Kansas, as well as from neighboring states, look forward to the third weekend in May each year for Marquette’s annual motorcycle rally.

Since it began in 2004, Thunder on the Smoky has grown into a popular festival attracting tourists as well as bikers to Marquette and its motorcycle museum.

Starlight Club stays busy

The Starlight Literary Club met at 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Uhler Memorial Senior Center. There were 11 members present and one guest.

President Janis Larson opened the meeting with devotions, followed by the club collect, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call. Secretary Vicki Young read the minutes of the last meeting. The treasurer’s report was given by Kim Kratzer. All bills were approved to be paid. Brenda Graham volunteered to be the secretary for the next year.
