Starlight Club learns about Assistance Dogs, Inc.

The Starlight Literary Club met at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the home of Brenda Graham. President Janis Larson welcomed 10 members and two guests to the meeting. Graham gave devotions, and the club followed with the club collect and pledge of allegiance.

Vicki Young read the minutes from the October meeting. Roll call was answered and everyone was asked if they had ever made a pumpkin pie.

Donna Kay Zajicek (1945-2018)

Donna Kay Zajicek, 73, Marquette,  passed away Nov. 7. 2018, at Salina Regional Hospital. She was born at home in Western Nebraska in August 1945 to Raymond and Laura (Wahl) Nickel. She had nine brothers and sisters.
She married Galen Rudolph Zajicek June 15, 1963, at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Western Nebraska.
Donna’s favorite job, by far, was her last job working for the Kansas Parks and Game Commission at Kanopolis State Lake for seven years until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Galen, Marquette; daughter, Lori Zajicek-Hopkins and husband, Lonnie, Marquette; siblings, Jim Nickel and wife, Diane, Nebraska, Rodney Nickel and wife, Betty, of Nebraska, Rick Nickel of Nebraska, Randy Nickel of Nebraska, Sheri Folkerts from Nebraska, and Darla Johnson and husband, Larry, of Nebraska; a granddaughter, Amber Hopkins-Reed and husband, Jordon; and a grandson, Cody Hopkins and friend Ashley Arnold.

Randy Scott Berg (1962-2018)


Randy Scott Berg, 56, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018. He was born June 26, 1962 in Crete, Neb.
Randy attended Marquette schools, kindergarten through graduation. He attended Salina Vo Tech after high school.
He worked at General Battery-Exide, Salina, and ATP in McPherson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Berg, and his grandparents.
He is survived by: his brothers Michael (Wendy) Berg, Galva, Marshall Berg and Vaughn Berg, Marquette; mother Judy Nickel and step-father Bill Nickel, Marquette.
Cremation has been chosen and no services are planned.
